JANA is a filmmaker with poetic veins. She loves humans and likes to listen to them. Her movies mostly move in between reality and fiction, because she thinks that this belongs together. As beautiful as art can be, at the end, life itself writes the best stories.

JANA (*1983), daughter of an artist and a sportsmen who loves painting, studied art and graphics design after graduating highschool in Freiburg. Afterwards she moved to cologne and made a bachelor’s degree in applied media management. Journeys to Australia, Nepal, Senegal and several internships in the film industry paved her way to studying directing at Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg. Lucky her, in between she had the chance to study for one semester at the South African school of motion picture medium and live performance (AFDA) in Capetown, which was funded by the Baden-Wuerttemberg-Scholarship. 2016 she finally made her diploma degree. Her graduation film MILLENNIALS had its premiere at the Berlinale 2017, was nominted for GWFF Best First Feature award and was shown at several Film Festivals around the world, such as FICG Guadalajara International Film Festival and New Horizons International Film Festival in Wroclaw.

After studying, she and other filmmakers founded “der salon” in Berlin, which is a co-workingspace for freelancers. She lives and works in Berlin and Freiburg as a freelance director and is currently working on the documentary LOLA’S SONG – Lolas Lieder (OT) for ZDF/3sat and on an episodical film about Freiburg.
